Registrations for US H-1B Visa to start from March 1 for fiscal year 2023

The primary registrations for H-1B visas of USA will open on March 1 until March 23 for the fiscal year 2023. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (UCIS) has confirmed this in the latest press release. During this period, potential petitioners and representatives can complete and submit their registrations through the online H-1B registration system.

In a financial year that began in October in America, 65,000 H-1B visas are issued while 20,000 visas are reserved for US Masters' degree holders. In the fiscal year 2021, top recipients of H-1B visas were following groups: Amazon, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services and Cognizant

• Once registration is done, the US immigration department will allot a confirmation number to track registrations. However, this number is not for the candidates to track the status of the registrations.
• Potential H-1B cap-subject petitioners or their representatives needed to use a myUSCIS online account to register each beneficiary online for the selection process and pay the amount of $10 as H-1B registration fee for each registration submitted on behalf of each beneficiary.
• Potential petitioners submitting their own registrations (U.S. employers and U.S. agents, collectively known as “registrants”) will use a “registrant” account. Registrants can create new accounts starting at noon Eastern on Feb. 21.
• As per the department, if sufficient registrations are received by March 18, then it will randomly choose registrations and send selection notifications through users’ myUSCIS online accounts.

Popularity of Canadian Visas among Indians caused the drop in H-1B program

As per Bloomberg News analysis, US employers’ initial applications submitted for engineering & mathematics jobs under the H-1B visa program dropped 12.6% in the fiscal year ending September 2021 compared to the past year. This fall was credited to the slow visa processing during lockdown and to the growing popularity of Canadian visas among Indians.
