The Express Entry system involves category-based draws for those eligible to apply for permanent residence under six categories.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will continue to conduct other forms of Express Entry draws in conjunction with category-based draws. Additionally, Express Entry draws include invitations to apply for permanent residence (ITA) based on the cut-off score of the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) among all Express Entry candidates and draws based on the eligibility of candidates for a specific program (for example, the Provincial Nominee Program).
The IRCC has categorized individuals into six groups, which are as follows:
A candidate must meet all the requirements noted by IRCC in order to be eligible for an invitation under a category-based draw. In the case of these draws, IRCC will rank the candidates in the pool who meet the requirements of the applicable category. After that, the top-ranked candidates will be invited to apply for permanent residence in the country
