Provincial Nominees Receive 279 ITAs in Latest Express Entry Round

The IRCC has conducted another Express Entry draw, this time inviting candidates who already hold a provincial nomination. In the February 16 round, 279 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) were issued under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) stream. To qualify for this selection, candidates had to:

• Score at least 789 points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS); and
• Submit their Express Entry profile before 12:59 a.m. UTC on September 5, 2025.

The CRS cut-off may appear high at first glance. However, applicants nominated by a province automatically receive an additional 600 CRS points. This means the actual core score of invited candidates was significantly lower before the nomination boost was applied.

With early 2026 draws concentrating on PNP and CEC candidates, the pattern suggests that Canada is prioritizing applicants who are already contributing to the labour market or have been selected by provinces to meet regional needs.

Breakdown of draw categories in 2026

In total, 24,457 ITAs have been issued across just seven Express Entry draws in 2026, reflecting a fast and structured start to the year. With significant volumes already allocated through Canadian Experience Class, French-language, and Provincial Nominee Program rounds, the government appears to be moving steadily toward its annual immigration targets. If this pace continues, 2026 could see one of the most active first quarters in recent Express Entry history, particularly for candidates already inside Canada or those holding provincial nominations.
