Employment Increased in Canada Adding 10,000 Jobs- LFS November 2022

Statistics Canada has released the latest Labour Force Survey (LFS) report for November 2022. As per this report, employment changed slightly (i.e. +10,000 jobs) in November, while the unemployment rate dropped by 0.1 percentage points to 5.1 percent.

The LFS approximations for November 2022 are for the week of November 6 to 12.

This study focuses on variances between estimations that are statistically substantial at the 68% confidence level. Labour Force Survey estimations at the Canada level do not comprise the territories.

Labour Force Survey (LFS) - November 2022

Find below the key findings of the LFS for the month of November 2022:

  • Employment raised among Core-aged women: Employment raised among women in the core working ages of 25 to 54, and dropped among young men aged 15 to 24. It was slightly changed amid the other key demographic groups. The employment rate among core-aged women touched a new record high of 81.6%.
  • Employment increased in key industries: Employment raised in key sectors, i.e. finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing; manufacturing; and in sectors, i.e. information, culture, and recreation. However, it fell in some industries, i.e. construction and wholesale and retail trade.
  • While employment rose in Quebec, it also declined in few provinces
  • Year-over-year upsurge in the average hourly wages of employees persisted above 5 percent for a 6th successive month in November, up 5.6% (+$1.71 to $32.11) compare to November 2021 (not seasonally adjusted).
  • After rising 0.7% in the month of October 2022, total hours worked were little changed in November. Compare to 1 year before, total hours worked were up 1.8%.
  • In the month of November, over 1 in 10 (11.2%) workers are working in the retail trade industry (not seasonally adjusted).
