Victoria’s skilled migration program 2025–26 is now open with Limited Initial Places

Victoria has officially launched its 2025–26 skilled migration program, opening applications to skilled migrants both within Victoria and overseas. The program aims to fill key skill shortages through two main visa pathways.

Program Allocations: Start Small, Expect More

The program has opened with a small, interim allocation from the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs:

  • Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190): 200 places
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491): 180 places

This limited release means competition for nomination will be high. The Victorian Government expects the full allocation for the 2025–26 program year to be confirmed by the Department of Home Affairs in the coming weeks. Updates will be shared via the Skilled Migration Program page and the Live in Melbourne newsletter.

Application Process: Key Steps for New and Existing Applicants

New Applicants

New candidates are eligible to apply for both the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491). To be considered for a nomination, applicants must take two crucial steps:

  1. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the Australian Government’s SkillSelect system.
  2. Submit a Registration of Interest (ROI) with the Victorian Government.

Existing Applicants

If you have an active ROI from the previous program year, it remains valid and will be considered for the 2025–2026 program. You only need to submit a new ROI if your personal information or circumstances have changed.

Applicants should consult the official 2025-26 Skilled visa nomination program page for comprehensive eligibility requirements before applying.
