India Restarts E-Visa Services for Canadian Nationals

As per latest reports, India has resumed electronic visa services for Canadian nationals after a suspension lasting nearly 2 months. The pause in visa services, commenced on September 21, was a consequence of the diplomatic tension between the two nations. Despite recent tensions, both nations are expeditiously restoring harmony, paving the way for strengthened ties and collaboration.

Resumption of E-Visa Services for Canadians

With the recommencement of these services, including tourist visas, all visa categories are now back in operation. Last month, services for some categories, including business and medical visas, had already resumed. In September 2023, India had announced the suspension of visa issuance to Canadian citizens "until further notice" amid a series of diplomatic exchanges.

Speaking about the restoration of the e-Visa services by India for Canadian nationals, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said, "As the situation has become more secure or relatively improved. I think we have found it possible for the visa services to progressively resume," He further added, "...And, you know, the physical visa has started in many categories."

The recent diplomatic tensions between India and Canada were anticipated to be short-lived, given the historical foundation of strong relations between the two nations. Both countries share a robust bond and have historically depended on each other for various aspects. Notably, Canada's continued invitation for Indians to apply for Permanent Residency (PR) visas through popular immigration programs like Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) reflects the mutual recognition of the valuable contributions and shared interests that bind these nations together. This enduring history of collaboration and interdependence fosters optimism that any diplomatic challenges will be effectively addressed, reaffirming the enduring friendship between India and Canada.
