Canada Targets Education Sector in New Express Entry Draw- Issues 2,500 Invitations

This draw is only the second of its kind since the education category was introduced to the Express Entry system. The previous draw for this category occurred on May 1, which invited 1,000 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 479. The latest draw has seen the CRS cut-off score plummet to 462, making it the lowest score this year for any category-based draw outside of French-language proficiency draws. The increase in draw size from 1,000 to 2,500 ITAs demonstrates a strong push by the IRCC to attract skilled education professionals.

Candidates who received an ITA in this round were required to have created their Express Entry profile before 4:24 a.m., Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) on July 9, 2025, and to have a minimum CRS score of 462.

This targeted draw follows a busy month for Express Entry. It is the fifth draw in September alone, coming on the heels of a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw on September 15, a large French-language draw with 4,500 ITAs on September 4, and a Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw on September 3.

With the latest draw, IRCC has now issued 64,297 ITAs through the Express Entry system in 2025. This year's draws have predominantly focused on PNP candidates, with a smaller number of invitations also being issued to candidates in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), those with French-language proficiency, and individuals in other priority occupation categories like healthcare and social services.

The data for 2025 reflects IRCC's strategic shift toward category-based selections, which aims to align immigration with specific labour market needs. Thus far, there have been 17 PNP draws, 9 CEC draws, 5 French-language proficiency draws, 4 for healthcare and social services, and now 2 for the education category. The significantly lower CRS score in this latest draw suggests a renewed effort to fill critical vacancies in Canadian schools and educational institutions.
