Canada Opens First 2025 Express Entry Draw for Trade Professionals

Canada's immigration department, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), has conducted its inaugural Express Entry draw of 2025 for candidates in skilled trades occupations. This targeted selection marks the first time this year that Invitations to Apply (ITAs) have been issued to this specific group.

The draw, which took place on September 18, saw 1,250 candidates receive an ITA. To be considered, applicants needed to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 505. This score is a notable increase from the last trade-specific draw in October 2024, which had a CRS cut-off of 433. The significant jump is attributed to the long interval between draws, allowing a larger pool of highly-ranked candidates to accumulate.

Analysis of Express Entry Draw 368

This is the sixth Express Entry draw in the month of September, and it follows a series of other category-based and program-specific draws. The previous draws included healthcare occupations draw, a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw, and a large French-language proficiency draw.

  • EE Draw number: 368
  • Date: Sep 18, 2025
  • Number of invitations: 1,250
  • Category: Trade occupations (Version 2)
  • Cut-off score: 505

So far in 2025, IRCC has issued 65,547 ITAs through the Express Entry system, with a strong focus on PNP and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates, as well as those with French-language skills. This is the first draw of its kind for trades this year.

According to a recently released government document, IRCC plans to issue a total of 3,300 ITAs to trade professionals in the second half of 2025. With 1,250 ITAs already distributed in this draw, a potential 2,050 more invitations could be on the horizon before the year's end.
