First Category-based Express Entry Draw of 2025- IRCC Invites 6,500 French-speaking Candidates

The Canadian government's Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted a significant Category-based Express Entry draw on February 19, 2025. This was the first such draw of the year, and it resulted in 6,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) being issued to candidates demonstrating strong French language skills.

This draw is notable for being the largest Express Entry draw in terms of ITAs issued in the past 12 months. Notably, a similarly large draw occurred on February 1, 2024, where 7,000 ITAs were issued to Francophone candidates.

Canada Prioritizing French-Speaking Candidates

Canada is strategically utilizing category-based Express Entry draws to significantly increase the number of French-speaking candidates receiving invitations to apply for permanent residence. This targeted approach allows individuals with strong French language skills to potentially secure Canadian PR with comparatively lower Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores.

By conducting large-scale draws specifically for those with French proficiency, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is creating valuable opportunities for Francophone candidates to achieve their immigration goals in 2025, while also bolstering the country's bilingual workforce.
