Canada New NOC system is now active- Find out what to do as Express Entry applicant

New NOC System of Canada, i.e. NOC 2021 Version 1.0 has taken effect now from 16 November 2022. Several Immigration programs including federal Express Entry System and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) have adopted this system replacing the old NOC 2016 system.

Let’s find out how this new NOC has impacted the candidates registered under Express Entry and other programs.

What you need to do as an Express entry applicant after new NOC?

As you already know that on November 16, 2022, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) switched to the 2021 version of the National Occupational Classification (NOC).

The applicants in the Express Entry System at now can be divided in two categories, i.e. (A) Profile submitted, but ITA not received, and (B) ITA received from IRCC. Now considering the above change, you must follow following instructions depending on your case:

  • ITA not received: If you have already submitted a profile, but didn’t receive an invitation to apply (ITA), you must
  • search for your occupation under the NOC 2021 list on the ESDC website
  • update your profile with your TEER Category and 5-digit occupation code
  • Click the link below to search your NOC occupation Code in new NOC 2021 List

  • ITA received: If you have received an invitation to apply from IRCCS before November 16, 2022, you must submit your application for PR visa using NOC 2016.

Canada NOC 2021 is now operational

The major change has occurred in the classification of occupations, as the new NOC 2021 will bring with it a shift to the Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities (TEER) system replacing the old NOC skill types 0, A or B. Here is an anticipated comparison between old and new NOC system:
