Canada’s New NOC System will come in to force on 16 November

Canadian government will employ new NOC system 2021 version 1 with effect from next week, i.e. November 16, 2022. The ESDC, on September 21, 2021, released the new National Occupational Classification system.

The IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) has announced that that federal Express Entry System and all Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) would switch from NOC 2016 to NOC 2021 from November 2022.

NOC 2016 Vs NOC 2021

The Immigration programs that used the NOC skill type or levels will use TEER categories from 16 November 2022:

  • Most jobs will remain in the TEER category that is equal to the skill level in the table below.
  • Some jobs may change to a different TEER category.
  • Skill level B jobs may become TEER 2 or TEER 3 jobs.
  • Find your occupation under the NOC 2021 list to find out what TEER category it belongs to.

New occupations added in New NOC system

Under NOC 2021, TEER 3 and above will be eligible. It submits, the following occupations will be added:

  1. Payroll administrators
  2. Dental assistants and dental laboratory assistants
  3. Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates
  4. Pharmacy technical assistants and pharmacy assistants
  5. Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants
  6. Sheriffs and bailiffs 
  7. Correctional service officers 
  8. By-law enforcement and other regulatory officers 
  9. Estheticians, electrologists and related occupations 
  10. Residential and commercial installers and servicers 
  11. Pest controllers and fumigators 
  12. Other repairers and servicers 
  13. Transport truck drivers 
  14. Bus drivers, subway operators and other transit operators
  15. Heavy equipment operators
  16. Aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors. 

Ineligible Occupations under NOC 2021

Three occupations, eligible at now for Express Entry under NOC 2016 will be eliminated under NOC 2021. These occupations are:

  • Other performers
  • Program leaders and instructors in recreation, sport and fitness
  • Tailors, dressmakers, furriers and milliners.
