Canada's Express Entry Categories: A Deeper Look
The determination of Express Entry categories falls under the purview of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), guided by Canada's economic and demographic objectives. Occupation-based categories are largely driven by labor market demands, addressing critical workforce shortages where domestic labor is insufficient. These categories prioritize occupations essential to Canada's economic growth, relying on immigration to bridge key labor gaps.
Conversely, the French-language proficiency category reflects Canada's commitment to bilingualism and the promotion of French outside Quebec, as mandated by the Official Languages Act. IRCC plays a vital role in facilitating the immigration and settlement of Francophone newcomers to support this national goal.
