Canada to invite 23,100 sponsors for Parent & Grandparents Program (PGP) – 2022

The IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) has announced the process for Parent and Grandparents Program (PGP) - 2022. This year, the IRCC will send Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to 23,100 potential sponsors.

The PGP allows eligible Canadian permanent residents and citizens to sponsor their parents and grandparents to come to on Canada PR (Permanent Residence) visa. Canadian government every year invite a fixed number of candidates to submit the interest to sponsor form to sponsor their parents/grandparents.

Parent & Grandparents Program (PGP) – 2022

Here are the key points to note regarding Parent and Grandparents Program (PGP) - 2022 process:

• For 2022 process, IRCC will send 23,100 invitations and eventually will accept up to 15,000 complete applications over the course of 2 weeks.
• The IRCC will start issuing invitations to apply in mid-October 2022 (through a lottery system) by using the remaining pool of 155,313 potential sponsors who submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020.
• If selected for an ITA, the IRCC will email you using the email address on your 2020 interest to sponsor form.

How to apply

Once you have received an invitation to sponsor your parents and grandparents, there are two applications:

• You must apply to become a sponsor
• Your parents or grandparents must apply for permanent residence

You need to submit both applications (i.e. sponsorship and the permanent residence application) together online at the same time. You must submit your application by December 24, 2022.

Stepwise process for PGP- 2022

Find below the stepwise PGP process for 2022:

Ø Get ITA- the IRCC will choose and invite 23,100 prospective sponsors to apply to sponsor their parents/grandparents through a lottery system. Subsequently, it will reach its target of accepting up to 15,000 complete applications.

Ø  Apply online- Do not fill application unless you get ITA for 2022 process. If you apply, but did not receive ITA for 2022 process, the IRCC will reject your application and will not refund the sponsorship application-processing fee.
