Canada to announce major Immigration Updates in October & November 2022

Canada has been consistently easing the process and rules regarding immigration in last few months. Now, in next few weeks, the government of Canada is going to make some key announcement, which will make major impact on the immigration measures and Canada PR process next year.

Some of these updates will be released in the month of October this year, while few others will be implemented in November 2022. Let’s take a look.

Likely Immigration Changes and updates in October 2022

  • Parents & Grandparents program (PGP)

The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is likely to announce the process for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) 2022 possibly in 2nd half of the October. The PGP allows the applicants (i.e. Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is over 18 years old) to sponsor their parents or grandparents for immigration to Canada.

In 2021, IRCC selected parents and grandparents for PGP visa by lottery, and invited 30,000 Canadians to submit their applications to sponsor. Now, it will be interesting to see whether the IRCC keep the same PGP process this year or not.

  • 2021 Census Report

Statistics Canada releases comprehensive data on immigration every 5 years and last time it was released was in October 2017. Hence, we may see the census report released in next few weeks. Statistics Canada accumulates data like income brackets, spoken language, and other such factors about Canadians. The latest data will tell the number of immigrants staying in Canada, preferred place to settle, languages spoken at home and number of family member etc.

  • Express Entry CUT OFF may drop below 500

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) resumed the all-program Express Entry System draws on 6 July this year and since them the CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score requirement or CUT OFF is consistently above 500 mark in all seven EE draws. The CUT OFF was 504 points in last EE draw held on 28 September.

Now, it is likely that the IRCC will drop the CRS score below the 500 mark in next few weeks. If this happens, it will be a big relief for the Express Entry candidates registered under Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) category.

Likely Immigration Changes and updates in November 2022

  • New NOC 2021 System Version 1.0

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is going to make amendment in the NOC (National Occupational Classification) system of Canada currently in use for federal Express Entry System. The new NOC 2021 will replace the existing NOC classification of Skill type 0, A, B. The NOC 2021 introduces A TEER system, which has six categories: TEER category 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.This change is likely to take place in November 2022.
