Moving to Canada in 2023 on PR Visa? Find out key things you must know

Year 2023 is the best time to apply for Canadian Permanent Residency (PR) Visa. The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is going to accept 465,000 new permanent residents this year under different immigration categories.

Therefore, if you are also immigrating to Canada in 2023 on Permanent Resident (PR) Visa, here are a few key things you must know and understand:

Key Canada PR pathways in 2023

Canadian government has designed various immigration pathways/programs to accept the newcomers in the maple leaf country on PR visa:

  • Federal Express Entry System: a point-based and online immigration program, which register and assess the skilled professionals from overseas, and subsequently, issue them ITA (Invitation to Apply) for Permanent Resident (PR) Visa. It is the fastest way to apply for and get skilled PR visa in Canada. The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) claims to process the Express Entry PR application within 6 months after receiving the same along with required documents.
  • Provincial Nominee Program (PNP): Every province (state) in Canada has a PNP, through which, it invite and assess the foreign skilled workers and allocate them nomination certificate to apply for Canadian Permanent Residency (PR) Visa. The eligible requirement and process for each PNP immigration stream is different. A few of the popular Canadian PNPs are: SINP, OINP, MPNP, NSNP, AAIP, etc.
  • Investor/Entrepreneur Program– This particular immigration pathway is for entrepreneurs/investors, who wish to start a new business or invest in existing business in Canada.
  • Self-employed Program– An applicant with relevant experience can move to Canada under the self-employed immigration program.
  • Family class Immigration– Under this category, Canadian citizens/permanent residents can sponsor their family members, i.e. spouse, parents and grandparents to Canada on PR Visa.

Key requirements to apply for Canadian PR visa

Although the requirements and eligibility criteria depends on the immigration program you are applying to, however, as far as skilled migration (through Express Entry or PNP) is concerned here are few general requirements:

  • Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) from an approved assessing authority, i.e. WES, ICAS, IQAS, etc.
  • French or English language proficiency test result (minimum CLB 7 level), such as, IELTS (International English Language Testing System) test result
  • Meet minimum eligibility point’s requirement, such as, 67 points required for Express Entry- Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) category.
  • Certificate for medical fitness along with Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) for all accompanying family members
  • Other basic requirements of the process you are applying to

Funds required while submitting Canada PR visa application

When you are applying for Canadian Permanent Residency (PR) Visa, you need to pay various charges including the Canada PR fee depending on the immigration program you choose to apply. For instance, to apply for Canadian PR visa through federal Express Entry System, you need to paly following fee and charges.

  • Canada PR visa fee for the primary applicant - CAD 850 (primary applicant)+ Right of PR fee- CAD 515
  • Spouse/common-law partner or family member fee- CAD 850+ Right of PR free CAD 515
  • Child (Under 22 years of age) – CAD 230

Cost for acquiring Medical and PCC

  • Medical Exam (Approx. 5,500)- Though it can vary from place to place
  • Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) – This document may cost you around INR 1,000 or above, depending on where you are applying.
