IRCC opens First ever Category-based Express Entry draw for Trades Occupations

On 3 August 2023, the IRCC conducted first ever category-based Express Entry draw for the Trades Occupations to invite 1,500 candidates to apply for Canadian Permanent Residency (PR) Visa. The Trades Occupations is one of the six categories chosen by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for the Category-based selections in the year 2023. The occupations such as, carpenters, plumbers and contractors, etc. fall under this category.

EE draw for Trades Occupations

In the Trades Occupations invitation round held on 3rd August, the IRCC issued total 1,500 invitations to apply to the candidates with CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score 388 points or higher. This CUT OFF is relatively low considering the regular All-program EE draws. Now, Canada has issued total 73,448 invitations in 2023 through overall 25 EE draws held until date.

EE Draws in August 2023

This was third Express Entry System draw in a row in the month of August 2023. The details of all EE draws held this month are as follows:

1 August

On 1 August, Canada held an all-program EE draw inviting 2,000 candidates with a CRS score of 517 points. This selection was made from all categories of the federal Express Entry System.

2 August

On 2nd August, the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted a draw for the Francophone (French-speaking) candidates inviting 800 candidates with a CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score of 435 points or higher.

3 August

The third and most recent draw took place on 3rd August. This EE draw was held to invite total 1,500 Trades Occupation candidates with a CRS score of 388 points or above.

Category based selections

Now, the IRCC has conducted invitation rounds for four out of total six categories selected for the year 2023. The two categories from which the selections have not been made until now are:

  • Transport
  • Agriculture and Agri-food

Hence, we may soon see draws for these two categories.

The six categories selected for category-based draws in 2023 are as follows:

  1. Strong French language skills
  2. healthcare?
  3. science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions?
     
  4. trades, such as carpenters, plumbers and contractors?
     
  5. transport?
     
  6. agriculture and Agri-food?
