Canada has started issuing Parents & Grandparent Program Invitations to potential sponsors

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has started randomly inviting the potential sponsors for the 2024 intake of Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) starting from May 21, 2024. The invitations are being sent to the applicants who submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 to apply for the 2024 intake.

Parents & Grandparent Program Invitations in 2024

The IRCC will issue 35,700 invitations over the course of nearly 2 weeks with a goal to accept up to 20,500 complete applications. If you have received the ITA (Invitation to Apply) from IRCC, you must submit your complete application by 11:59 p.m. ET on August 2, 2024

Who you can sponsor?

If they are eligible, you can sponsor:

  • your own parents and grandparents, related by blood or adoption
  • the dependent children of your parents and grandparents (for example, your siblings, half-siblings, or step-siblings) and their dependent children
  • if your parents or grandparents are divorced, their current spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner
    • You’ll need to submit separate applications for your divorced parents.
    • If your parents or grandparents are separated and not divorced, you’ll need to submit one application for them because they’re still married.

When they apply for PR, your parents and grandparents (and their dependants) must provide

  • all required forms and documents with their application
  • any additional information we request during processing, including
    • medical exams
    • police certificates
    • biometrics

How to Apply

Once you get ITA (Invitation to Apply) to sponsor your parents and grandparents, there are 2 applications:

  1. You must apply to become a sponsor.
  2. Your parents and grandparents must apply for permanent residence.

The online Permanent Residence (PR) Portal allows the person you are sponsoring (the principal applicant) to submit both the sponsorship application and their PR application simultaneously.
