Canada has approved a New Language Test for Immigration

The IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) has approved a new language test for Canadian PR (Permanent Resident) Visa applicants under economic class immigration. The IRCC is likely to implement this new language test by early to mid-2023.

This update came through a copy of memorandum to deputy minister (Strategic and Program Policy), about ‘Designation of Language testing Organizations’, obtained by CIC news through an access to information request.

New language test for Economic immigration

Once this new language test is implemented Canadian immigration applicants will have five language testing authorities to apply for language test for immigration purpose. Presently Canada has approved four language tests, i.e.

• English
  • IELTS: International English Language Testing System
  • CELPIP: Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program
• French
  • TEF Canada : Test d’évaluation de français
  • TCF Canada : Test de connaissance du français

English and French are two official languages of Canada and hence, the IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) has authorized four above-mentioned language-testing agencies to verify the language ability of the Canada immigration applicants under economic class section. The government has not revealed much detail about this news.

Review of Language Designation framework

As per government of Canada, all four are established entities with rapidly increasing service locations across the globe. However, constantly rising requests seeking designation compounded by lengthy, complex and inadequately transparent designation process have started mounting pressure on IRCC for more efficient and advanced designation framework.

To combat the rising demand for language testing the immigration branch will also search the viability of launching a new language designation program with devoted management and program functions and adequate capacity to support a more rationalised and intelligible approach to language testing.

The IRCC constantly release updates and rule changes to make the immigration to Canada smooth and hassle free in the best interest of the aspirants.
