What is Minimum CRS Score Required for a PNP?

Are you looking to get Canada this year, but concerned about your low CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score?

The provincial nomination obtained from a Canadian province can solve your problem by adding 600 additional points to your current Express entry CRS point score. The provincial nomination received from PNP also enables you to apply direct permanent residency (PR) to IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) depending on the PNP stream or subcategory you have applied.

However, do you know the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), which suits our profile and point score the best? If your answer is no, let's find out the Provincial Nominee Programs or PNPs requiring low CRS score or point score from the applicants.

PNPs that demand low point score

Before we look at the point's demand by different provincial programs, i.e. the programs that best match your profile, the first thing you need to know that every Provincial Nominee Program has different point system than other.

Hence, the point's requirement of most of the Canadian PNPs not necessarily be in terms of a CRS score. Most of the PNPs do not follow the CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System); instead, they have their own points system to evaluate the applicants. However, Express Entry aligned stream of every PNP often invites the candidates checking their Express entry pool status and points, etc. For instance, the CRS score requirement for NSNP or AINP- express entry streams often depends on an applicant's Express Entry pool status.

Let us find out the points requirement by different Provincial nominee programs of Canada to issue the candidates' invitations for a provincial nomination, etc.

  • Ontario

Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) earlier required the applicants to have a minimum of 400 CRS points to apply. However, a few months back, the province has removed any prior minimum CRS score requirement and decided that the program director will announce the minimum CRS score requirement, for every OINP draw.

Since then the OINP invites candidates below 400 CRS points under certain conditions, i.e. experience in targeted IT occupation, French language proficiency, etc. However, in the recent OINP draws, Ontario has invited candidates with CRS score ranging between 465-475 CRS points.

Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) Alberta is one of the easiest Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) to get Canadian PR visa nomination. The Express Entry aligned stream of Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) invites the candidates with CRS score as low as 300 CRS points.

  • Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) is the provincial program of Saskatchewan province in Canada. This PNP has last year introduced EOI (Expression of Interest) based system of accepting applications for Occupation in Demand and Express Entry streams of SINP (like federal express entry system). Moreover, the SINP has its point assessment grid in place, based on which it selects the EOI profile submitted by the applicants.

The minimum point's requirement in recent Saskatchewan PNP draws hovering between the 65 and 85 points for its Express Entry and Occupation in Demand Subcategory.

  • Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island is an Atlantic province of Canada with its own Provincial Nominee Program with a separate point system for selecting candidates.

PEI does not reveal the points score requirement for its labour and Express Entry stream. The points score requirement for PEI PNP's Business Work Permit Entrepreneur stream ranges between 80 and 120 points in the recent invitation rounds of Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP).

  • Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)

Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) also has the EOI (Expression of Interest) based system in place with a separate point-based system of selecting the applicant for provincial nomination. Manitoba PNP has many immigration streams. The points score requirement for its popular Skilled Worker Overseas stream ranges between 681 to 720 points in the recent MPNP draws.

Apart from the above, many other PNPs launch their periodic draws to invite or select the provincial nomination candidates. Some more active PNPs of Canada are:

  • Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP)
  • British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)
  • New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NB PNP)
  • Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program, etc.
