Canada takes pride on its one of the most organized point based online immigration systems in the world, i.e. Federal Express Entry System. It is the fastest and hassle free way of moving to Canada as permanent resident.

PR through Express Entry System

Express Entry System is a point based online immigration system launched by IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) in January 2015. It has been designed to select the suitable skilled workers to meet the demand of Canadian labour market.

Express Entry is based on point system called CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System). The CRS allocate points to the registered applicants based on their key profile factors, i.e. age, education, work experience, language proficiency (English or French), etc. The IRCC launch a draw every fortnight to choose the candidates with top CRS score. It announces cut off marks or CRS score requirement for each draw and candidates, who achieve the same get ITA (Invitation to Apply) for Canadian Permanent Residency Visa from IRCC.

Canadian provinces also invite the applications from overseas skilled workers through their respective Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). Quebec – a major Canadian province also has its own immigration program, i.e. Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP) to invite application from the foreign skilled workers.

Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs)

Almost every Canadian province has a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) through which it invite application from foreign skilled workers and subsequently, nominate them for Canadian Permanent Residency (PR). Provincial Nominee Programs nominate the skilled workers as per the annual nomination quota allocated to them by the federal government.

Some popular PNPs of Canada are:

  • Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) – Ontario Province
  • Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) – Saskatchewan
  • Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP)- Nova Scotia
  • Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)- Alberta
  • Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)- Manitoba

Almost every PNP has two main sub-categories, i.e.

  • Express Entry sub-category: This sub-category is aligned with federal express entry system. Through this stream, a PNP can notify candidates from express entry pool to apply for nomination through PNP. If an applicant applies and get selected he gets additional 600 CRS points in express entry, which in turn makes him get ITA from IRCC.
  • Occupation in Demand Sub-category: This category is also for skilled workers, having skills and experience matching the in demand occupation in a particular province. A province reveal list of in demand occupation and invites application for PNP from the interested applicants. If an applicant is selected for nomination, he/she can directly apply to IRCC for Canada PR.

Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP)

The Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP) is the immigration program of Quebec province in Canada. If you apply in QSWP and get selected, you will receive CSQ (Quebec Selection Certificate), which in turn makes you eligible to apply Canada PR visa directly to IRCC.
