If you are a skilled worker in the USA, looking to get a Permanent Residency (PR) Visa in an alternate country, Australia is just the perfect alternative for you. Australia and the USA have several things in common, apart from being the English speaking nations. Both offer more or less similar settings and environment to the immigrant workers, i.e. high paying jobs, high standards of living, well-developed infrastructure, multicultural society, quality of life, etc.
Since America is tightening its immigration rules and requirements over the years, temporary immigrants in the USA are looking to get PR in Australia, which is relatively easier to get than US Green cards.
What are the key pathways to get PR in Australia from the US?
Australia is one of those countries, which introduced a point-based system for immigration. It takes pride in its online point-based system and dedicated skilled visa categories, allowing immigrants to come to Australia and settle permanently. General Skilled Migration (GSM) Program is the key pathway for skilled workers to get PR in Australia.
General Skilled Migration (GSM) Program
General skilled migration is an online system that assesses the applicants' eligibility based on their age, education, English Language ability, work experience, nomination (from an Australian state), etc., parameters.
It has two points tested permanent visa categories, i.e.
Skilled Independent Subclass 189 Visa
A point tested permanent visathat allows you to live and work in Australia permanently. It does not require any sponsorship from an Australian employer or nomination from the state in Australia. You can submit EOI for this visa through the online SkillSelect system.
Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 Visa
As the title suggests, it's a state nominated visa; hence, you need a nomination from an Australian state or territory to apply for this visa. This visa is also a permanent visa that allows you to live and work in Australia permanently. You can submit EOI for this visa through the online SkillSelect system.

How to apply
The general skilled Migration (GSM) program has a point-based system for visa applicants. First, you need to gather the essential documents to apply, i.e.
Now, you can submit EOI (Expression of Interest) in the online SkillSelect System and score a minimum of 65 points based on age, education, work experience, language skills, etc., to register as an applicant. You also need to obtain a state nomination if applying for Subclass 190 visa. Australian immigration authorities will select the applicants with the top immigration point score through periodic invitation rounds.
