UK Visa Update- Tourist Visas to Allow Work Starting January 31, 2024!

In a noteworthy move, the United Kingdom (UK) is set to employ new visa rules effective January 31, 2024, expanding opportunities for people with visitor visas. The UK Tourist visa holders will now have the ability to work with clients and engage in remote work while in the country. This ground-breaking measure is expected to improve business activities and tourism in the country.

Key points of the new UK immigration Rules

As per latest reports, the UK government has updated its immigration rules to allow more activities on Visitor Visas. Key points of the new rules include:

• Employees of companies with both British and international branches can work on client projects abroad, provided it's a small part of their overseas responsibilities and is crucial for a project or service by their UK branch.
• While visitors can work remotely from the UK, the primary reason for their stay should not be remote work.
• Scientists, researchers, and academics are allowed to conduct research in the UK, with some exceptions.
• Lawyers can engage in additional activities such as providing advice, acting as an expert witness, participating in legal proceedings, and teaching.

The Permitted Paid Engagement (PPE) Visitor route will be merged into the Standard Visitor route, simplifying the process for those involved in paid engagements. However, individuals still need to plan their activities within 30 days of arriving.

Last month, Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt announced the government's commitment to expanding business visitor rules, allowing businesspeople to participate in a wider range of activities and paid engagements, effective January 2024. Further reforms to the business visitor rules are also under consideration for the year 2024.
