Ontario Released key OINP updates Amongst Covid-19 Pandemic

visas default image Ontario has announced a few updates regarding in view of the impact of Covid-19 outbreak on the key streams of OINP (Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program). Key updates of Ontario Provincial Nominee Program (OINP)

The OINP is one of the most popular provincial programs of Canada. It issued over 7,000 provincial nominations last year to selected candidates. This year too is has been issuing NOIs (Notifications of Interest) to the candidates via its express entry aligned stream, despite the outbreak of pandemic in last couple of months.

The province has asked the applicants to carry on with their submission process even if they are not able to acquire the essential supporting documents, however, in such case; the applicants need to include a detailed explanation letter clarifying the reasons for the missing details.

Inform about changes to application

The candidates as well as the employers needed to quickly inform the OINP of any noteworthy changes to the application, which comprise the changes in employment positions at the basis of job offer streams.

The Ontario PNP plans to communicate with all employers to check that job offers, or positions still fulfil the program criteria. Applications will be processed according to the reply given by employers about the status of the employment.

Once the employers specify that there has been no change in position, OINP will continue to process the application.

Candidates with Provincial nomination

The OINP has informed that it will support the nomination of applicants whose job has been impacted by a temporary layoff related to the pandemic, if they still meet the parameters of the program.

The applicants need to inform the OINP; in case the employment offers have been withdrawn or the candidate have lost the job.

In case of a permanent layoff, nominees will be given 90 days to get support from another employer and will be given the chance to submit a new application to the OINP.

Entrepreneur Stream of OINP

The Candidates who have received ITA through OINP- Entrepreneur Stream will get a temporary extension of 90 days and will get such intimation by e-mail.

Moreover, the candidates are asked to contact the Ontario PNP if they have already submitted An application under the Entrepreneur Stream and are facing difficulties such as:
  • deferments in getting information regarding the follow-up of your application
  • temporary terminations, suspension or important changes in business activities
  • temporarily incapability to meet hiring or employer requirements
as per the latest update, "No application will be rejected, and no approvals will be void without informing the candidates and employer." The OINP will analyse answers to these notices before making a final decision.
