Ontario nominated record number of tech and skilled trade workers for Canada PR in 2020

The year 2020 was surprisingly favorable for Ontario as the province managed to nominate a record number of immigrants, i.e., 8,054 primary applicants along with their spouses and dependent children, making a total of 15,303 nominations.

Though the Ontario has a capping of 7,350 nominations by the Federal Government, still the province ended up nominating 300 additional applicants under the NOC C Pilot for low-skilled workers and 450 additional nominations.

Let's talk about nominations in detail.

In 2020, about 20 per cent of people with work experience or job offers in following high-tech occupations were nominated by Ontario for Canada PR:

Software engineers and designers
Computer programmers
Interactive media developers;
IT systems analysts
Technology consultants

While, another 20 per cent nominations were issued to those who had work experience in any skilled trade, specifically under OINP's Express Entry: Skilled Trades stream.

Approximately 48 per cent, of nominations were issued to candidates who had a job offer in Ontario before getting provincial nomination. Around 96 per cent were post-secondary degree holder, and a minimum of 43 per cent met language skills requirement for any one of the two official languages in Canada, i.e., English or French.

Express Entry candidates were prioritized by Ontario

Under Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, the province nominated 3,499 Express Entry candidates via key Express-Entry aligned PNP stream, including:
