Now Get Express entry points for Canadian education obtained from outside Canada

Its good news for Canadian PR visa aspirants with Canadian qualification. As per latest Express Entry update, if you have obtained a Canadian degree, diploma or certificate and finished any part of your program of study or training between March 2020 and August 2022 (i.e. during pandemic time), you can now claim Canadian educational credential points in Express Entry system, even if you have accomplished the program totally

  • through distance learning;
  • from outside Canada; or
  • Through part-time studies.

Update your Express Entry profile to claim Canadian Educational Credential points

To claim these points, you need to update your Express Entry profile to make certain that you have the best possible opportunity to get the ITA (Invitation to Apply) through Express Entry.

Express Entry- CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) System

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) rank foreign skilled worker applicants in the Express Entry pool based on a points-based system, i.e. Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). It select the top-ranking candidates from the pool and issue them invitation to apply for permanent residence.

The IRCC open an Express entry draw every two weeks. Each draw has a set of guidelines that are:

  • posted online at the time of the draw
  • used by the EE system to invite candidates from the pool

These guidelines include:

  • the date and time of the invitation round
  • the number of candidates that will get ITA
  • which immigration program(s) are included in the round (some invitation rounds may only invite candidates for one program, for example only from Federal Skilled Trades)

You may use this information to check your profile score and see how likely you are to get an ITA (Invitation to Apply) in the next round.

Distance learning measures extended to August 31, 2023.

In an another update, the IRCC has announced on 25 August 2022 that distance learning measures will stay effective until August 31, 2023 in order to give foreign students time to return to Canada. Here are key points to consider:

  • Foreign students who are studying abroad, or who submit a study permit application prior to August 31, 2022 will able to continue to accomplish up to 100% of their program online, without affecting their eligibility for a PGWP.
  • Before pandemic, students needed to finish no more than 50 percent of their studies online, and time spent studying online outside Canada was deducted from the length of their PGWP.
  • Starting from September 1st, 2023, study completed overseas will be deducted from the length of their PGWP, irrespective of the fact, as to when their studies began.
