Nova Scotia Announced Its News Francophone Immigration Action Plan 2022-25

The provincial government of Nova Scotia announced its all new immigration action plan to attract more French-speakers across province.

The new plan, “Growing Nova Scotia’s Francophone Population for Success (2022-25)” aims at increasing the French-speaking population by welcoming more and more francophone newcomers to settle in Nova Scotia.

The new plan will put efforts on:

  • increased partner and community engagement
  • promotion and attraction of francophone newcomers
  • population growth programs for French speakers
  • retention and inclusion of French speakers via newcomer settlement services
  • research and evaluating all the programs

According to the reports, province will create awareness about current PNP streams for French speakers via the Nova Scotia Nominee Program and will hold targeted draws to invite French speakers, as well as via the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).

Increasing Population Across Nova Scotia

According to Canada's latest Immigration Levels Plan 2023-2025, the country is aiming to welcome approximately 500,000 newcomers as permanent residents by 2025.

Followed by this, Nova Scotia too seeks a share of the increase in immigration level. In the year 2021, Nova Scotia's population grew to over a million for the first time in history and by 2060, Nova Scotia is hoping to double its population. Immigration is majorly responsible for province's population growth, and is most likely to continue in coming years.

To encourage more and more French-speakers to move to Nova Scotia, the province regularly conducts targeted draws via its Provincial Nominee Program. In its most recent targeted draw for French-Speakers, Nova Scotia issued 150 invitations to eligible Express Entry candidates who had French as their first official language or had scored at least CLB 10 in all four language abilities.
