IRCC Continues to process the Study, eTA, Visa and Immigration Applications

visas default image The IRCC has announced that it will continue to process the eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) and visa applications for the individuals, who are exempt from the recently announced travel restrictions in order to contain the ongoing virus outbreak.

The preference will be given to the applications of the Temporary foreign workers, which are related to necessary services regarding medical and food supply chain. The announcement has also been made regarding the in time processing of Study permit applications. Let's find out more about this recent statement from IRCC.

Processing of key visa and immigration applications to continue

Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued a statement on April 10, 2020, and announced that it will continue to process the study permit applications "to the extent possible" before the of the fall academic term. Only students with a study permit issued prior to the recently imposed travel restrictions applicable from March 18, 2020, are presently allowed to visit Canada. At now only non-essential visitor visa applications are impacted, which IRCC has announced will allow resources to be reallocated and focussed on necessary services.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has resulted in to the introduction of new immigration steps affecting foreign nationals, mainly temporary foreign workers, their families and foreign students. Despite latest measures, IRCC has stated that a substantial number of exemptions and has repetitively confirmed that it will continue to process applications lodged under its several immigration programs. Hence, the student, workers, and visitors, who are entitled for the exemption are being asked to apply online.

Canada continue to accept EOIs and issue invites

Despite the temporary travel restrictions imposed due to Covid-19, the IRCC and provinces of Canada, continues to accept new EOI (Expression of Interests) and invite the candidates through periodic draws. Hence, it is likely that despite the disruption caused by the pandemic, Express entry and PNP program of Canada is likely to achieve their annual immigration target this year. Express entry will invite 91,800 candidates this year, while the provincial nominee program (PNPs) of Canada has an annual immigration target of 67,800 for the year 2020.
