Posted - 05, Jan 2017

The first express entry draw of the year 2017 is launched by Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on January 4, 2017. The draw shall invite high ranking candidates registered in the express entry system to apply for permanent residency in Canada. It’s the 51st draw overall since the Express Entry System commenced two years back, i.e. January, 2015. Let’s find out the key statistics of the latest draw of express entry.

1st Express Entry Draw of 2017

Here are the key statistics of the 1st express entry draw this year:
  • The draw is open from January 4, 2017 to January 5, 2017
  • The Qualifying Marks or CRS Score requirement in the draw is 468 points or more.
  • A total of 2902 candidates will be invited in the current EE draw for PR in Canada.
Let’s explore the other key features of the current draw and the trends so far.

Assessment of 1st EE Draw of this year

The current draw of express entry is significant in terms of various aspects. First of all, in this first draw of this year, the qualifying marks reached to 468 mark after 10 months. It means, in the last ten months, first time the CRS Score requirement from IRCC went this low (468 points). Last time it was at this level in the month of April, 2016.

List of Express Entry Draws till date

However, after the month of April last year, the CRS score requirement from IRCC kept on increasing and never hit back to this level again till the current EE draw.

EE Draw trends since 2016

The IRCC started well last year in the interest of candidates by decreasing the qualifying marks in the first quarter, however, after that it kept enhancing the requirement of CRS score. Not many would have thought that IRCC will reduce the qualifying marks again. However, the experts who kept a close eye on the express entry proceedings and trends had the idea as to what coming out next from the mixed bag of IRCC.

The Visas Avenue in its earlier assessment for January, 2017 had already indicated that qualifying marks may keep low in the first quarter of 2017. And the result of the first express entry draw of this year is quite in line with assessment of Visas Avenue Immigration, as IRCC invited highest ever PR candidates (2902) by reducing the qualifying marks to 468 points.

The candidate who will get ITA (Invitation to Apply) from IRCC in the current draw will have 90 days to submit complete application along with the required documents as per the new immigration rule effective from November 19, 2016.
