As per the Canadian Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen Canada’s 2018 annual immigration target will be somewhat similar to what it has been for last couple of years. The statement from the Immigration Minister has come at the time when the federal government is about to reveal its Immigration plan for the year 2018. The minister was speaking about next year’s immigration plan on CBC radio show The House.

Immigration Figure is Likely to be Stable around 300,000

As per Hussen, the figure of 300,000 is now a new normal for annual immigration level plan. In fact, he didn’t even rule out the possibility of higher number than this mark. As per the Immigration Minister, the government has extended the annual immigration target from 260,000 to 300,000 in last couple of years, considering the needs and requirements of the families of the Canadian citizens and permanent residents, who are willing to invite their dear ones.

Moreover, the demands from the Canadian employers also force the government to enhance immigration levels to fulfill their requirements. Ahmed Hussen also gave the statement earlier this year confirming the Baseline Figure for Annual Immigration to be stable around 300,000 mark in the years to come.

Number of Skilled Workers will be invited in significant number

Out of total number of candidates going to be invited as permanent residents in Canada next years, a huge portion will be under Economic immigration category only, as Canada mostly needs immigrants in the country as skilled workers in order to cater to the problem of skilled shortage due to ageing workforce.

Express Entry System will play a vital role in Annual Immigration

Federal Skilled Worker System will play a major role in inviting and selecting immigrants under skilled worker category. It is based on a point system called Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The CRS assess, evaluate, and select the applicants based on their total points scored for age, education, work experience, Language ability, etc. parameters.

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) launches the fortnightly draws to invite the applicants, who have got highest points in the Express Entry pool. The applicants, who get selected based on their CRS score, receive ITA (Invitation to Apply) to apply for Canadian Permanent Residency (PR) from IRCC.
