On October 31, 2023, Canadian Immigration Minister Marc Miller has released a report, i.e. An Immigration System for Canada’s Future that lays out a pathway to strengthen Canada’s immigration system for people, making certain that immigration continues to contribute to Canada’s economic growth, and help businesses and communities flourish.
The report outlines strategies for revolutionizing Canada's immigration system, drawing from input and collaboration with a diverse array of partners and stakeholders. While certain modifications are already in progress, others are currently in the planning stages. Create a more welcoming experience for newcomers
Decrease waiting periods and enhance service quality
Facilitate the removal of obstacles to accommodating individuals essential for our future
Enhance collaborations with employers and institutions dependent on immigration, while combating fraud and reinforcing safeguards for students and workers
Enhance communication and maintain a people-oriented approach
Enhance the user-friendliness of applications by leveraging digital and virtual technologies
Persist in promoting reconciliation as we receive newcomers
Align immigration with labour market needs
Maintain Canada’s global competitiveness in appealing and retaining top talent
Establish the position of Chief International Talent Officer to harmonize Canada's immigration policies with a comprehensive skills and labour strategy.
Put into action the inaugural tech talent strategy.
Sustain enhancements to the Start-Up Visa Program.
Prioritize international students possessing sought-after skills.
Collaborate with partners to enhance the recognition of foreign credentials, enabling more newcomers to leverage their skills.
Facilitate the entry of foreign workers who can address societal demands in critical areas within Canada.
Develop a comprehensive and coordinated growth plan
Develop a more comprehensive governmental strategy for immigration expansion.
Provide assistance to communities.
Position the immigration system to adapt rapidly and respond equitably and sustainably to the increasing global humanitarian emergencies.
This report, titled "An Immigration System for Canada's Future," along with the engagement process it represents, implies the conclusion of formal engagement sessions but the commencement of a transformation in Canada's immigration system. As Canadian society continually evolves and new realities emerge, so will its immigration programs and policies.
To capitalize on the opportunities that change brings, Canada must remain proactive, innovative, and adaptable. This cannot be achieved in isolation. It is through collaboration and staying connected that IRCC can exchange information, address emerging challenges, and find solutions.
