Canadian government opens a PR pathway for families of two Air Disaster victims

The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has employed a permanent residence (PR) pathway for the families of the victims of two Air Disasters, i.e. Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 (ET302) and Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 (PS752), who are outside of Canada.

These people wish to come to Canada to settle and support members of their family who lost their spouse, common-law partner or parent. Find out more about his pathway.

PR pathway for families of Air Disaster victims

The announcement of this new pathway follows IRCC’s initial public policy that offered a PR for families who were provisionally in Canada. Eligible immediate and extended family members, who are outside of Canada, can apply. To make certain that extended family members have close ties to the living family member, the family member in Canada require providing a statutory declaration recognising the extended family member applying for PR.

Here are few key things to check before applying:

  • There is a limit of two extended family members per family unit.
  • The victim of flight ET302 or PS752 must have been a citizen or PR of Canada or foreign national who had been approved for PR (permanent residence).
  • Candidates should check to see if they are eligible and then cautiously read all the instructions on how to apply before submitting an application.
  • All standard fees, biometric requirements and admissibility requirements applicable.
  • The public policy for families outside Canada will remain in effect for 1 year, from August 3, 2022, until August 2, 2023.

The IRCC formerly announced a public policy to offer a pathway to PR for family members of victims of ET302 and PS752 who were in Canada provisionally. This public policy was available from May 12, 2021, until May 11, 2022.
