Canadian government adds 13 new countries for Visa free travel to Canada via eTA

On June 6, 2023, Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has announced the addition of 13 new countries to the electronic travel authorization (eTA) program. Hence, now, the travellers from these nations who have either held a Canadian visa in the past ten years or who presently hold a valid USA non-immigrant visa can now apply for an eTA in place of a visa when travelling to Canada by air.

List of thirteen New countries added to Eta program

With effect from June 6, 2023, eligible travellers from below nations can benefit from the eTA program:

  1. Antigua and Barbuda
  2. Argentina
  3. Costa Rica
  4. Morocco
  5. Panama
  6. Philippines
  7. St. Kitts and Nevis
  8. St. Lucia
  9. St. Vincent and the Grenadines
  10. Seychelles
  11. Thailand
  12. Trinidad and Tobago
  13. Uruguay

The countries which are not included in in eTA program need to apply for proper Canada Visitor Visa to be able to visit Canada.

A Canada visitor visa allows people who are not Canadian permanent residents or citizens to visit Canada for short-term. Find below the key requirement of this visa.

Key requirements for Canada visitor visa

To be eligible for a visitor visa, you need to demonstrate that you meet the requirements set by the Canadian government, including:

  • Valid travel documents: You must have valid travel documents, i.e. passport, etc.
  • Purpose of visit: You need to have a valid reason for visiting Canada, i.e. tourism, family visit, or business.
  • Financial support: You need to show that you have sufficient funds to cover your stay in Canada in terms of transportation, accommodation, and living expenses, etc.
  • Links to your home country: You need to show that you have substantial connections to your home country, i.e. employment, property, or family, to convince authorities that you will return after your visit.
