Canada to Create PR Pathway for Temporary Workers & International Students

Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser hopes to launch a new Permanent Resident program for temporary residents and international students.

The pathway will be similar to the one launched last year, i.e., the Temporary Residence to Permanent Residence (TR2PR) program under which Canada accepted 90,000 applications from temporary residents.

Fraser told CBC, "We are looking at the best path forward to create a permanent pathway for temporary residents." The Canadian immigration authority has 120 days deadline to develop and release a detailed strategy to achieve the mentioned goal.

Thus, Immigration, Refugee, Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will provide the details of the new PR program by September 8, 2022.

Significant Changes Planned for Federal Express Entry

As per the IRCC's internal memo, Canada will resume Express Entry invitation rounds for Federal Skilled Worker Program and Canadian Experience Class candidates in early July. The IRCC will issue the invitations at a pre-pandemic rate.

Many hopeful applicants in the Express Entry pool eagerly look forward to early July.

However, apart from this update, a few other changes are also lined up. First, like Bill C-19, the IRCC will be authorized to issue invitations to eligible Express Entry candidates based on an economic goal, like occupation, education credential or French-language ability.

This move will help the Canadian government fill the labour market gaps and vacant job positions in various sectors and industries across Canada, like accommodation and food services, retail trade, manufacturing, health care and social assistance, construction industries, etc.
