Canada Reports Over 1 Million Job Vacancies Post Pandemic

According to a recent report by Statistics Canada, the nation presently has over 1 million job vacancies and is actively looking for skilled and talented professionals to fill the labour market gaps.

The Canadian economy has significantly recovered from the global pandemic, and 115% of lost jobs have returned. The top provinces where several vacancies reached a record high include Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and British Columbia.

Canadian employers are now actively looking for skilled workers to fill over a million job positions across different sectors and believe that Immigration will play a significant role in helping employers fill those gaps and sustain Canada's economic growth.

Here are the different ways Canada's government is helping employers recruit and retain skilled foreign workers.

To resume all-program Express Entry draws

The IRCC will resume all-program Express Entry draws in early July. Also, instead of inviting candidates solely based on the points system, the authority will select candidates based on their ability to meet Canada's economic goals. Thus, in the upcoming all-program EE draws, the IRCC is expected to target candidates under a group of specific occupations, among other factors, which might result in a comparatively lower CRS cut-off.

To extend post-graduation work permits for International Student

To further make it easier for overseas students to stay in Canada and work under any employer, the Canadian government will extend PGWP (post-graduation work permits). The extension will allow recent graduates whose permit has expired or is soon to expire to apply for an extension of their status for up to 18 months.

This, in turn, will help the PGWP holders to continue gaining relevant Canadian work experience, which will pave their path toward applying for permanent residency in Canada.

With the low birth rate and ageing population in Canada, immigration plays a pivotal role in filling vacant job positions and maintaining overall economic growth.
