The Canadian government has recently announced that the people with valid COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residence) can travel to Canada with effect from June 21, 2021.However, the individuals holding an expired COPR have many questions in their mind. Hence, the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has released the latest instructions regarding how the candidates with expired COPR can travel to Canada. Let us look.
Overseas individuals with expired COPR
If are outside Canada and your COPR and PR visa are expired or expiring, the IRCC has issued guidelines as to how you can travel to Canada, following the process mentioned therein.
The IRCC contacting everyone with expired COPRs, including those issued after March 18, 2020.What happens next:
• The IRCC will send you an e-mail about your application.
• If you answer the email and tell them that you still want to come to Canada, they will explain, what to do next.
• It may ask you for new medicals and/or updated information.
• If you don’t respond, the IRCC will keep your file closed and you’ll have to reapply when you’re ready to come to Canada.
In the email, the IRCC may ask about your family situation has changed (for example, new-born, marriage, divorce) so that they can update your application and ask you for any other documents required. It may also require updated documents,in case the ones you previously submitted are no longer valid (police certificates, medical exams, etc.).

Remember the following
• Do not go for medical exam in advance. If you need a new medical, the IRCC will send you new instruction forms to take with you to the doctor after you reply to email. This will help avoid processing delays.
• To avoid delays, don’t contact via web form or through the processing office e-mail. If you have already contacted, please wait for instructions.
• The Canadian immigration department expect people with a COPR and PR visa that are valid until October 1, 2021 or after to have adequate time to come to Canada before their documents expire.
Travelling to Canada
You can travel to Canada once the department confirm in writing that they,
• re-issued your documents and
• sent you a reprinted COPR and (if you require one) a new visa sticker in your passport
If the IRCC reissue your COPR, it will send you the documents you need to travel.
