Canada Issues 5,000 ITAs in Latest French-Language Express Entry Draw 9th July 2026

The draw, held at 10:32:58 UTC, saw 5,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued to eligible candidates in the pool.

July 9, 2026: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted a fresh round of Express Entry invitations today, targeting candidates under the French-language proficiency category. The draw, held at 10:32:58 UTC, saw 5,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued to eligible candidates in the pool.

Draw Highlights

Detail Result
Draw Category French-Language Proficiency
Date & Time July 9, 2026, 10:32:58 UTC
Invitations Issued 5,000
CRS Cut-off Score 420

What This Means for Candidates

This round marks a notable shift in IRCC's French-language draw pattern. The CRS requirement rose by eleven points compared with the previous French-category round, which had a cut-off of 409 — itself the highest score recorded for this category so far in 2026. At the same time, the number of invitations grew as well, with 500 more ITAs issued than the prior French draw held on May 28, which had invited 4,500 candidates.

Despite the uptick in score, French-language draws continue to offer one of the most accessible routes into Canada's Express Entry system. Candidates who demonstrate strong French ability — typically NCLC/CLB 7 or higher across all four language skills — can qualify for these rounds well below the CRS thresholds seen in general or Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draws, which have recently hovered in the 500s.

Broader 2026 Context

  • As of July 5, 2026, the Express Entry pool held 235,127 candidates.
  • IRCC has now issued more than 96,000 invitations across all draw categories so far in 2026.
  • French-language draws remain central to Canada's push to grow francophone immigration outside Quebec, a policy priority carried into the 2026–2028 Immigration Levels Plan.
  • Analysts had flagged French-language proficiency as the strongest candidate for a July category draw, given the 53-day gap since the last round — the longest such gap of the year.

Why French-Language Draws Matter

French-speaking candidates continue to enjoy a significant CRS advantage over general pool applicants. While CEC and general draws have required scores well above 500 for much of 2026, French-category cut-offs have generally ranged between roughly 390 and 450, giving mid-scoring candidates a realistic — and often faster — path to an ITA.

Candidates who hold a valid TEF Canada or TCF Canada result at NCLC 7+ across speaking, listening, reading, and writing are automatically eligible for this category, regardless of their occupation, making it one of the most accessible streams in the entire Express Entry system.

Next Steps for Candidates

Anyone who received an ITA in today's round should log in to their Express Entry account and prepare their complete Permanent Residence application within the standard 60-day window, ensuring all required documents — including proof of French-language proficiency — are ready.

Candidates who did not receive an invitation but hold strong French test results are encouraged to:

  • Keep their Express Entry profile updated and active
  • Consider adding an English test (CLB 7+) to unlock the 50-point bilingual bonus
  • Explore Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) options, which can add up to 600 CRS points
