The IRCC hold different types of rounds of invitations throughout the year.

  • General Rounds: Invitations are issued to the highest-ranking candidates in the Express Entry pool who are eligible for any of the three managed programs.
  • Program-Specific Rounds: Invitations are focused on candidates eligible for a specific Express Entry program (e.g., Provincial Nominee Program). Only candidates meeting the criteria for that program are considered.
  • Category-Based Rounds: The Minister designates a specific category to address an economic need. Invitations are then sent to the highest-ranked candidates in the pool who meet the criteria for that designated category.

To be considered for any Express Entry draw, candidates must be eligible for at least one of the three programs managed through the system.
