Canada Accepted record number of new immigrants in 2022

It is the largest number of people ever welcomed by Canada in a year in Canadian history, surpassing the previous record created in 2021.

The measures taken by IRCC (Immigration Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) over the last few months have contributed largely towards raising the bars and fulfilment of the immigration goals set by the government for 2022.

• In 2022, IRCC processed nearly 2 million applications for PR, temporary residence and citizenship, i.e. double the number of applications processed in previous year, i.e. 2021.  
• While planning to welcome historic numbers of newcomers, IRCC continued to enhance resources, embraced new technology, updated processing, and brought more processes online.

Immigration target for 2023

As per Canada immigration plan 2023-2025, released on November 1, 2022, the IRCC plans to welcome 465,000 new permanent residents in 2023. This target will further raise to 485,000 in 2024 and it will be 500,000 newcomers in 2025.
