British Columbia has announced to extend its Tech Pilot Program till June, 2019

British Columbia- a key province of Canada has confirmed that it is extending its Tech Pilot Program until June Next year. This key pilot program targeting the overseas tech professionals was launched in August 2017 under British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP). It was introduced to flourish in the Tech industry of the province.

Tech Pilot of British Columbia Extended

The tech pilot introduced last year as part of BCPNP to invite applications from the talented foreign IT professionals, with skills and experience, matching any of the 32 in-demand occupations of the province.

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) opens draw periodically to select the tech professionals from the pool of candidates. The interested candidates need to first review the occupation list and nominate an occupation accordingly.

Key changes in the Tech pilot

The province has also made some vital changes in the program for its next term. Here are the two key changes applicable.

  • The total number of occupations in the BC in-demand occupation list has been reduced to 29 from 32.
  • Now, the required full-time employment offer needs to be of just 365 days (one year). Earlier the permanent full-time offer was required.

The later change among the above two was made on receipt of the request from employers, who affirmed that the employment offers are often issued based on the projects of limited duration.

Occupations removed from in-demand occupation list

The below three occupations have been removed from the British Columbia in-demand occupation list, as per the feedback received from tech industry of the province:

  • NOC 0113 - Purchasing Managers
  • NOC 1123 - Professional Occupations in Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations
  • NOC 4163 - Business Development Officers and Marketing Research and Consultants
