Australia has updated requirements for temporary visa applicants in Australia

The Government of Australia has reformed the requirements for temporary visa applicants in Australia. The government has mainly update the requirement regarding the medical examination requirement for Temporary visa applicants in the land down under.

In last few months, Department of Home Affairs (DHA), Australia is constantly making changes and updating the requirement in the best interest of immigration aspirants. Find out more.

Key updates in Requirement for temporary visa applicants

The Temporary visa applicants in Australia will require undertaking pertinent medical examinations and/or chest x-rays in case, they:

  • have applied for a medical treatment, temporary protection or provisional visa
  • expect to incur medical costs or need medical treatment
  • intend to work as (or study to be) a doctor, dentist, nurse or paramedic
  • will enter a hospital, aged or disability care facility (if higher tuberculosis risk)
  • are pregnant and intending to have the baby in Australia
  • will work or train at an Australian childcare centre
  • are aged over 75 years (if applying for a visitor visa)
  • have had previous household contact with tuberculosis, or
  • are requested to do so by the Department.

Do other applicants need medical examinations?

Other temporary visa applicants in Australia will not require undertaking medical examinations and chest x-rays to meet the health requirement.

  • The Department of Home Affairs (DHA), Australia is updating the systems to show the new policy. It will update ImmiAccount information soon.
  • Candidates need to complete questions on their form honestly. If the DHA finds false declarations, it may cancel the candidate’s visa.
  • In case your circumstances have changed since you completed your form and you think you may require undertaking a medical examination and/ or chest x-ray, you should notify the Department.

New Measure applies to all eligible temporary visa applications

This measure is applicable to all eligible temporary visa applications presently with the DHA and new applications made in Australia. The DHA will review these arrangements in early 2023.

  • 403 Temporary Work (International Relations)
  • 405 Investor Retirement
  • 407 Training
  • 408 Temporary Activity
  • 417 and 462 Working Holiday
  • 461 New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship (Temporary)
  • 476 Skilled - Recognised Graduate
  • 482 Temporary Skill Shortage
  • 485 Temporary Graduate
  • 500 Students
  • 590 Student Guardian
  • 600 Visitor
  • 870 Sponsored Parent (Temporary)

Key Points to remember

  • If you have an existing medical appointment-, The Bupa have contacted candidates via SMS to cancel appointments if they are no longer required. If applicable, refund will be provided.
  • Booking a medical appointment-, The DHA will update your ImmiAccount soon to reveal whether you need a medical examination. You should assess the above parameters carefully before booking an appointment with Bupa.
  • Refunds for recently completed medical examinations- Refunds are not available for medical examinations. The DHA will consider these medical examinations in the usual way.
