As per the latest federal budget 2022-23, the Australian Government is focusing more on skilled migration. It has increased the allocation for Skill Stream in annual Migration levels plan. As part of the latest budget, the Morrison government seem to address critical skill shortages, encouraging innovation and luring investment. The Migration Program for the upcoming program year will focus on skilled migration, with a come back to a pre-pandemic composition of approximately two-thirds and one-third across the Skill and Family streams respectively. The allocation for Skill stream will rise to 109,900, more than 30,000 places above 2021-22 planning levels.

Occupation Lists
The Department of Home Affairs (DHA), Australia will review the Occupation lists and will update the same in early 2022-23 to replicate the changes in Australia’s labour market, based on recommendation from the National Skills Commission.
Family stream Migration
The Family stream will get an estimated 50,000 places in upcoming program year, as the idea of the government is to support family reunion.
The Partner visa processing will change to a demand driven model from program year 2022-23. The DHA will allocate 100 places for the Special Eligibility category, i.e. the visas for those in special circumstances, comprising permanent residents returning to Australia after a period abroad.
Working Holiday Makers
Australia has Working Holiday Maker (WHM) arrangements with 45 nations, of which 26 partner-nations, function under annual “cap” arrangements.
To upkeep Australia’s economic future and the continued growth of the tourism sector, the Government has announced a one-off cap rise to the number of places available to WHMs from nations with which Australia has a Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa arrangement.
Hence, about 11,000 extra WHM visas will be available for prospective backpackers. This amount is likely to improve the underlying cash balance by $45 million over the next 3 years.
Humanitarian program
