Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIPP) to become Permanent w.e.f. January 1, 2022

Canada’s popular Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) is going to become a permanent program with the start of New Year. Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser and provincial leaders has announced that the new name of this program will be Atlantic Immigration Program with effect from January 1, 2022

The Atlantic Immigration Program will allow 6,000 newcomers to come to Atlantic Canada ever year.

Atlantic Immigration Program 2022

Canadian government expect the permanent Atlantic Immigration Program to attract workers and enhance the economic growth in the Atlantic Provinces of Canada, i.e.

  • New Brunswick,
  • Nova Scotia,
  • Prince Edward Island, and
  • Newfoundland and Labrador

As per Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the immigration is vibrant to the future of communities across the maple leaf country, and nowhere more so than Atlantic region. In last few years, the Atlantic Immigration Pilot has admitted and retained thousands of new immigrants to the region. These new Canadians have supported the communities to flourish and grow businesses and population grow of Atlantic Canada.

The new permanent program will officially open on January 1, 2022, helping the Atlantic Provinces lure the skilled newcomers they require to meet economic and demographic challenges in the region, such as, the labour shortage. While announcing the program Sean Fraser, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship said,

“Over the past few years, the Atlantic Immigration Pilot has made an incredible difference in communities across our region. It has brought us the resource we need most: more people. They’re skilled, they’re young and they’re staying. Now, we’re doubling down on what works by making it permanent, so we can continue attracting the best and brightest to our region and build a vibrant, prosperous future for Atlantic Canada.”

The candidates with a valid endorsement can start submitting applications for Permanent Resident (PR) under the new program on March 6, 2022.

AIPP first launched in 2017

First launched in 2017, the Atlantic Immigration Pilot has admitted over 10,000 new permanent residents to Atlantic Provinces of the country. The program holds 3 features that made it such a success:

  • a focus on employers,
  • enhanced settlement support and
  • A collaborative approach across all Atlantic Provinces.

The IRCC and the Atlantic provinces have worked together to design the permanent program based on experiences and recommendations from the pilot evaluation. The changes comprise illuminating roles between partners, enhancing employer support via training and reinforcing the program requirements to make certain that the new immigrants can successfully establish themselves in Atlantic Canada.
