The government of Alberta has started working towards the ambitious Alberta Rural Immigration Program, which aims to bring nearly 40,000 new comers in the rural communities of Alberta by 2024. As per the new Premier of the Province Mr. Jason Kenney, consultations on two Alberta immigration programs shall begin later in the year 2019 only. The blueprint and target of this rural program was first promised by the new premier during the recent election campaign.
Jason Kenney, the present premier of Alberta province, who also served as Canada's immigration minister from 2008 to 2013, promised to create the Rural Renewal Program and the Rural Entrepreneur Immigration Program, once he is elected. As per him this would ensure that the "use the power" of immigration for rejuvenating the smaller communities around the province.
At now, the immigration department of the province is working on the design of the program and continues to explore various options. The Consultations on the programs shall start in the fall of 2019 with stakeholders, i.e. employers, settlement organizations, experts and immigrants who are already established in Alberta. The new program would help bring overseas skilled workers as well as the entrepreneurs to rural communities of the province, revealed the news release by UCP (United Conservative Part) few months back, i.e. in February 2019.
As per UCP, the rural renewal program will be based on Manitoba's Mordern's Community Initiative program, which is a successful model to follow. The RRP of Alberta will be linked to Federal Express Entry system, which is a key source of skilled foreign labour to the maple leaf country, said Kenny, during the election campaign.
As of now Alberta PNP- Express Entry stream is already linked to federal Express Entry system of IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada). However, as of now,the government has not mentioned whether or not Express entry aligned stream of AINP, will be linked to the RRP (Rural Renewal Program).
The Rural Entrepreneur Immigration Program, has a goal of accepting 500 experienced immigrant entrepreneurs and their families every year, as per the election campaign promise by Kenny.
The candidates, who remain successful in this program would get a 2-year temporary work permit and later, they will be eligible to receive a provincial nomination for Canadian PR (permanent residency), provided some key parameters are fulfilled.
