After Australia Hijacked the Immigration Headlines in April, it is time for Canada to dictate terms in May 17

The month of April and May have been incredible for the world Immigration. There was flurry of news, updates and immigration rule changes in both the months. April has already given many surprises to the visa and immigration aspirants on the other end, whereas, May still continue to create buzz, as we are already half way through this month. However, it all started right at the start of this year, when US President Donald Trump created a huge buzz through its controversial immigration orders.

Now, coming back to immigration buzz in April and May, there are two countries, which particularly captured most of the immigration news and headlines in last two months, i.e. Australia and Canada. Lets take a look to know more about the same.

Australia Dominated Immigration News Headlines in April, 2017

On April 18, 2017, the Canadian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced to remove and replace the Australian 457 Temporary work visa with two new visa categories. Within couple of days, Australian government made another big change by replacing its high demand occupation lists with two new lists of eligible skilled occupations, i.e. Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and Combined List of Eligible Skilled Occupations.

After the gap of few days, Australia also announced stricter requirements for the applicants of Australian citizenship and later confirmed the news of introducing new parent category visas for Australian citizens and permanent residents.

Canada- Dictating the Immigration Headlines in May 2017

The watching the Australian show all along April, Immigration applicants witnessed flurry of immigration news and announcements from Canada. Although, the Australian immigration events were somewhat tough on applicants, Canada brought a series of soothing immigration news announcements for the immigration aspirants.

The month of May started with massive Express Entry Draw of Canada immigration, which invited 3,796 candidates for Canada PR. Later in the first fortnight of May, Canadian Provincial Nominee Program, i.e. Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program announced to issue the weekly NOIs to the candidates registered in the express entry pool for the Human Capital Priorities (HCP) stream. Soon after, Canadian province British Columbia also invited 364 candidates to apply for the provincial nomination, under its popular British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP).

In the first half of the May only, key Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry stream of Nova Scotia Immigrant Nominee Program (NSNP) opened to accept 250 applications; however, it soon paused due to some technical issue. Later in the month, i.e. on May 16, 2017, Saskatchewan Provincial Nominee Program (SINP) reopened its International Skilled Worker Express Entry sub-category to invite 600 new applications.

On the very next day, i.e. May 17, 2017, another major Express Entry draw launched with lowest ever qualifying marks, i.e. 415 points. The draw invited staggering 3,687 candidates for Canadian permanent residency. Hence, the month of May 2017 has been full of Canada immigration news and events so far.
