The University of Melbourne, Australia, to build strategic links with Indian universities and technology firms

The University of Melbourne plans to build strategic links with universities and technology companies in India. The university aims to explore partnerships in research, teaching, commercialization, and student exchange to further strengthen its relationship with India.

With more than 2,000 Indian students studying presently at the University of Melbourne, the university is now looking to ramp up to 25-30% in the coming years.

In a recent university delegation to India, Prof. Michael Wesley, deputy vice-chancellor international, University of Melbourne, said, "One of the focal points of India's national education policy is driving new and innovative partnerships between India and foreign institutes, and the recent economic and trade agreement between India and Australia also establishes a positive context for building significant partnerships,"

About University of Melbourne's Engaging with India Strategy

The delegates from the University of Melbourne visited India to reconnect after a span of two years since the launch of its 'Engaging with India (2020-2024) strategy.

Here are the key initiatives the Australian University aims to work upon with Indian partners:

  • Health: To co-develop an allied health program for chronic disease management with Indian partner institutions and expand opportunities in digital health research.
  • Water: To develop collaborations in integrated water management, exclusively with university researchers and the Indian Power Ministry.
  • Law: To establish the Indian Equality Law Program and explore various pathways to offer educational mobility options.
  • Arts: To establish a teaching portfolio and learning opportunities about India and infuse the University’s expertise in performing arts, music, visual and literature.
  • Teaching and learning: To expand the depth and breadth of the Melbourne-India PG Academy and expand learning programs and blended teaching.
