With an aim to meet an ambitious immigration level target of 2022, Canada is working towards clearing up the application backlogs for economic class programs.
According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), total 231,187 candidates are waiting for a final decision on their PR applications. If we closely look at the figures, the backlog has declined for key Express Entry programs, like Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Worker Program.
There is an overall reduction by nearly 24,400 persons since the end of December. The IRCC also notified significant gains in non-Express Entry PNP pathways and Temporary Residence to PR program.
Among all the economic immigration programs, the Express Entry has shown a vast improvement clearing application backlogs. The IRCC recorded a decrease of 23,748 persons since the end f=of December. The inventory for Express Entry in December was 119,389, which further fell to 95,641 by the end of February.
In fact, in the month of February, the Canadian Experience Class backlog reduced by 3,051 persons whereas the Federal Skilled Worker Program backlog reduced by 4,314 persons.
The IRCC's current application processing rates clearly suggest that Canada will soon clear the CEC backlog by the summer 2022, whereas the FSWP backlog would fall to zero by the end of this year.
