Record-high 35,000 Immigrants Welcomed in Canada in January 2022

With higher Canadian immigration level targets and more efficient processes, the face of Canadian immigration for 2022 looks highly promising. As we approach the Q2, i.e., the Second Quarter of 2022, IRCC has already welcomed 35,260 newcomers as permanent residents in January 2022.

Steps Towards Achieving Ambitious Canadian Immigration Plan 2022-2024

As per the Immigration Levels Plan 2022-2024, Canada will invite 431,645 new permanent residents by 2022.

Keeping in line with the current plan, Immigration, Refugee, Citizenship Canada welcomed over 35,000 permanent residents in January 2022, out of which 65 per cent landed under Canada's economic class immigration programs.

While 20 per cent landed under the family sponsorship class program, and the remaining 15 per cent landed under refugee and humanitarian class.

Express Entry Remains the Leading Pathway

Among other economic class programs, Express Entry's Canadian Experience Class (CEC) remained the leading program via which over 7,700 newcomers gained Canadian Permanent Residence status.

The Provincial Nominee Program followed the path and welcomed 4,200 new immigrants for permanent residency. At the same time, nearly 2,600 immigrants landed via Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) in January 2022.

Speeding up Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) Applications

As per the recent data shared by IRCC, the authority has speed-up the processing of FSWP applications. The IRCC has processed more than 9,000 FSWP applications between the December mid and February end. This is a sign that IRCC is slowly normalizing FSWP operations.
