No Biometrics required for Certain TFWs, before Arriving in Canada- IRCC

In an important announcement, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has exempt the TFW (Temporary Foreign Workers) under certain categories from providing biometrics, before arriving in Canada. The IRCC took this decision as part of containment measures for the Covid-19 pandemic. This is applicable if the biometrics collection site near them is shut due to a Covid-19 related interruption.

Some TFW exempt from Biometrics

The temporary foreign workers (TFWs), planning to work in Canada as truck drivers, or in the health-care, agriculture, or agri-food sectors, are exempt from Biometrics.

Most of these workers have already given their biometrics to Canada since they have worked in the country earlier. However, the IRCC will continue to ensure and sustain the safety and security of the people of Canada, by making certain that biometrics are gathered for all Temporary foreign workers.

Biometrics Requirement for Canada immigration

Usually, biometrics are required for the overseas people, who apply for certain key visa categories, i.e. visitor visa, a study or work permit (except U.S. citizens), refugee or asylum status, permanent residence, a visitor record, etc. For this purpose, the applicants submit their fingerprints, photo, and pay a fee.

Canada gathers the biometrics to quickly and correctly determine the identity of overseas travellers, and hence, ensure their smooth entry in the country.

What process does one need to follow upon landing in Canada?

When you land in Canada as TFW, you may be asked to give your biometrics at a Point of Entry (POE) in Canada. Moreover, you get screened at Port of Entry by CBSA to make certain that you have arrived for a genuine purpose only. Now as per the instructions applicable now, traveling to Canada for work is being considered as the necessary travel. Once any temporary foreign worker land in Canada, he/she will have to self-quarantine for 14 days.

The IRCC making things easier for the immigrants

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada have confirmed that it is giving extra extensions to the people, who are presently not able to submit their biometrics outside Canada, due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Even though, it is mentioned in the biometric instruction letter that you have a 30- or 90-day deadline to submit biometrics, you do not need to be tensed about missing the deadline if their nearest visa application centre or biometrics collection site remains closed. Such applicants do not need to provide their biometrics until collection sites get back to their normal operations.

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada have also confirmed that it will not reject any application, which is presently in programs due to missing documents. The Canadian government is taking different measures and announcing changes to ensure that new immigrants in the country don't face any issue.
