New Skilled Occupation List (SOL) of Australia to be Introduced w.e.f. July, 2016- Find out Key Changes

visas default image The DIBP (Department of Immigration and Border Protection) Australia is going to introduce the new SOL (Skilled Occupation List) with effect from July, 2016. This new list will include the latest in demand occupations in Australia with key changes in the current list. However, if you have submitted an application before 1st July, 2016, the upcoming changes in the SOL list will not affect your application.

Which all categories of applications will be affected by SOL changes?

There are certain visa categories for which you require choosing an occupation from SOL (Skilled Occupation List). Hence, the applicants applying under such categories will surely have to keep an eye on the changes. Below are the key visa categories, which will be affected by SOL changes. The applicants, applying under the above three categories, required to make sure that their occupation is listed in the new SOL, taking effect from July, 2016.

What are the key changes made to the existing SOL?

In the SOL being introduced on 1st July this year, a couple of new occupations have been added and a few of them have been removed as well. Lets take a look at the key changes made to new SOL list.   List of occupations being removed from SOL effective July, 2016:
  • Environmental Health Officer (ANZSCO 251311)
  • Petroleum Engineer (ANZSCO 233612)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Adviser (ANZSCO 251312)
  • Metallurgist (ANZSCO 234912)
  • Mining Engineer (Excluding Petroleum) (ANZSCO 233611)
  • Dental Hygienist (ANZSCO 411211)
  • Dental Prosthetist (ANZSCO 411212)
  • Dental Technician (ANZSCO 411213)
  • Dental Therapist (ANZSCO 411214).
The occupation being added to SOL effective July, 2016:
  • Audiologist (ANZSCO 252711).
  • Orthotist or Prosthetist (ANZSCO 251912)
However, the changes or assessment of the SOL will not affect the CSOL (Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List) by any means. The occupations which at now are listed on CSOL will continue to be in the list after 1st July, 2016 as well. The Occupation Ceiling updates and information for 2016-17 SOL list, will be shared on the DIBP site with effect from June, 2016. The aspirants, who have not yet arranged their skill assessment, need to refer the new SOL list and accordingly apply for the same at earliest.
