Liberal Party Yet Again wins Federal Election – What is there for Canada Immigration Aspirants?

Led by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the Liberal party of Canada has won the maximum seats in Canadian federal Elections, third time in a row. As the election results, yet to be confirmed officially, it is likely that Justin Trudeau will get another term as the Prime Minister of Canada. Liberals are set to remain the biggest group in the parliament, as the main opposition leader Erin O’Toole of the Conservative Party has conceded the defeat.

Justin Trudeau set to remain the Prime Minister of Canada

Although, the official results of the Federal Election 2021 are still filtering, Trudeau seemed set for another minority government. Liberals asked to dissolve the parliament, thinking that they will get a majority government this time around, however, the initial results show that they will have to co-operate with smaller left-of-centre parties to form the government.

Gamble didn’t pay off as per the expectations

Leading a minority government since 2019, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took a gamble by calling early elections, while two years were remaining in his tenure, hoping that the government’s pandemic response would lift his party’s power in parliament. However, the liberals yet again could not win enough seats to form a majority government.

As per the initial outcomes, Liberals held 155 seats in parliament; the Conservatives grabbed 119 seats, while the Bloc Quebecois held 32 seats followed by NDP with 24 seats. To form a government, a party need at least 170 seats in the parliament out of total 338 seats, and looking at the above statistics of current elections, no party qualifies to form a majority government. Now, liberals being the largest party yet again after being a leading group in 2015 (majority govt.) and 2019 (minority govt.), they are most likely to form a coalition or minority government this time around as well.

As per the Canada immigration plan, the government to accept over 1 million permanent residents in next three years.

The IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) will soon announce the renewed immigration plan and may further enhance the same as it does every year.
